I understand where you are coming from. 指「我知道你從哪來」
問他人從何處來的一般問句是： Where are you coming from?
但這裡是接在understand後面，當understand的受詞。因此要改成名詞子句的型式，因此要把主詞放到疑問代名詞之後，也就是Where之後，變成where you are coming from.
相似的例子有：
你叫什麼名字： What is your name?
我知道你的名字：I know what your name is.
天天開心回答是對的，
